A downloadable game for Windows

An adventure to remember.

Discovered at a garage sale in the suburbs of Chicago, Axe Quest is a first-person action adventure. You play as a nameless adventurer wielding only an axe. The game supposedly halted development in late 1994, but the game itself is fully playable, aside from a little jankiness, such as the inability to save your point in the game. Once you close the game, all your progress is gone.

In Axe Quest, you start in a lone field, with nothing but an axe and a guidebook to your name. Your goal is simple-- complete the three dungeons, then enter the cursed temple and defeat the wizard. The game is fairly short-- maybe 15 or so minutes long at most-- but still provides as authentic as an experience can be in terms of late-90s adventure games.

This game (legitimately, not in terms of the supposed story) was developed in 8 days as part of a personal programming challenge. It's loosely based around games like the Legend of Zelda (NES) and The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall/Morrowind. It utilizes the seemingly-now-defunct URSINA engine, which uses Python as its preferred language of scripting.

Enjoy!
